Apply now to volunteer at World Science Festival Brisbane and be an important part of Australia’s largest science event! Volunteer applications are open now until Sunday 8 February. World Science Festival Brisbane will return Friday 20 – Sunday 29 March 2026.
World Science Festival takes science out of the laboratory and into the streets, parks, museums, galleries and performing arts venues of Brisbane and regional Queensland – attracting over 2 million attendances since launching in 2016. Queensland Museum holds exclusive licence to host World Science Festival in the Asia Pacific region – the only global extension of this initiative.
Every year, we enlist the help of 100+ volunteers across a variety of roles and locations. Our volunteers support staff at locations and events across South-East Queensland, and provide various roles, such as:
- Representing World Science Festival and being the friendly face of the festival.
- Greeting visitors and providing information about the program.
- Providing directions to nearby festival events and facilities.
- Managing queues.
- Checking tickets and ushering.
- Light set-up and pack-down.
- Engaging with visitors at activity stations.
- Volunteer Supervisor (by appointment to previous volunteers only).
We are looking for people who are:
- Comfortable communicating and working with people of all backgrounds and ages.
- Passionate about learning and sharing knowledge. A background in science is an asset, but not necessary.
- Reliable, flexible and enthusiastic.
- 18 years or older.
As a World Science Festival Brisbane volunteer you will receive:
- WSFB-branded uniform to wear on shift and keep afterwards.
- A certificate of appreciation from the World Science Festival team.
- Discounts at Queensland Museum during the festival period.
- Opportunities to learn, share your knowledge and develop your passion for STEM.
- Opportunities to network and meet likeminded people.
- Opportunities to attend World Science Festival Brisbane events.
